Nigel Westlake/Lior Attar - Compassion (New Zealand premiere)

Benjamin Northey - Chief Conductor
Te Ahikaaroa
Lior Attar - Tenor

We open this special concert with the world premiere of a work for kapa haka and orchestra developed in collaboration between Pieta Hextall, Savanah Tukariri, Kerepeti Paraone, and Te Ahikaaroa.

Compassion draws from the rich world of Islam and Judaism to present a collection of profound and poetic messages surrounding the idea of compassion between human beings. Sung in Hebrew and Arabic, this deeply moving and powerful work weaves together the mesmerising voice of Lior with the sounds of the symphony orchestra.

This is a one hour concert with no interval.

Due to the nature of this concert, we advise that you plan to arrive at the Town Hall before the concert starts at 7.30pm. The back row of the outer stalls will be available for latecomers. However, the changing of seats will not be possible once the concert has commenced. Please also allow for time to find parking. For more information on where to park near the Christchurch Town Hall, please visit parkopedia.co.nz.

Dr Chris Cree Brown will be interviewing composer Pieta Hextall live about He Ngākau Aroha prior to the concert at 6.40pm in the Ron Ball Studio.
