Paul Dukas - Sorcerer's Apprentice
Henri Dutilleux - Concerto for Violin L'arbre des songes (The tree of dreams)
Hector Berlioz - Symphonie Fantastique
Anu Tali - Conductor
Andrew Haveron - Violin
Described by the Herald Tribune as "charismatic, brilliant, energetic", Estonian conductor Anu Tali makes her debut with the CSO for an evening of French music.
One of the great romantic symphonies, Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique tells the tale of an artist who is haunted by the vision of an unattainable woman. Featuring an opium-fuelled nightmare in which the artist watches his own execution, this evocative and sumptuous musical tale is a true masterpiece.
The CSO are delighted to welcome back violinist Andrew Haveron, Concertmaster of Sydney Symphony Orchestra, to perform Dutilleux's Concerto for Violin L'abres des songes (the tree of dreams)
Opening the concert is Dukas' tone poem Sorcerer's Apprentice, also known for its starring role in Walt Disney's classic animated film Fantasia.
